Average retail gasoline prices in Illinois fell 5 cents a gallon in the past week, averaging $2.17 a gallon Monday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 4,378 gas outlets in Illinois.

This compares with the national average that fell 2 cents in the last week to $2.20, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Most Jacksonville stations were at $1.89 a gallon Monday.

Including the change in gas prices in Illinois during the past week, prices Monday were 13 cents a gallon lower than one year ago and 12 cents lower than a month ago. The national average decreased 2 cents during the last month and is 3 cents higher than one year ago.

“Late last week OPEC members further discussed the unilateral production cut they hope to reach by the end of November and conflicting reports raise significant challenges to any consensus. But just that possibility continues to be a dominant factor in the direction of global crude oil prices and retail gasoline prices too,” said Gregg Laskoski, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy.
