American Red Cross volunteers are helping an adult and four children with clothing and finding a place to stay after a weekend fire at a Goltra Avenue residence.
Police were called Sunday morning to a house at 705 Goltra Ave. after residents reported returning home and finding there had been a fire earlier in the kitchen. The fire was out, but Jacksonville Fire Department Capt. Mike Griffitts said there was smoke and water damage to the house.
Residents told police the house had been ransacked between Friday and Sunday. Several items inside the house were damaged, including walls and windows.
