What’s new at the Jacksonville Public Library:

ADULT FICTION

“Quick Sand” by Malin Persson Giolito: A girl attending an elite private school makes the front pages of newspapers across the country when she perpetrates a mass shooting that leaves her boyfriend and best friend dead. After nine months awaiting trial, she is due in the courtroom. The country holds its breath for an explanation of how a popular student with top grades became a cold-blooded killer.

ADULT NON-FICTION

“A House Full of Females: Plural Marriage and Women’s Rights in Early Mormonism, 1835-1870” by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich: Polygamy is intimately associated with the early Mormon church, but details about the women who lived in polygamy are little known, even to modern Latter Day Saints. The Pulitzer Prize-winning author and past president of the Mormon History Association uses the diaries and letters of “plural wives” to document the radical influence they had on the early Mormon Church and how they continue to shape the church today.

DVD

“Snowden”: This film is a biographical thriller about Edward Snowden, the man who released thousands of classified documents about the widespread civilian surveillance being carried out by the United States government after 9/11.

YOUNG ADULT FICTION

“Well, That Was Awkward” by Rachel Vail: Gracie has never felt like this before and it’s all because of A.J. It turns out that A.J. likes her best friend, Sienna. Gracie is happy for her — really. She’s used to being the sidekick, well almost. In this funny and tender book, you will go deep into the heart of middle school and find that even with heartache, there can be hope and moments of happiness.

CHILDREN’S PICTURE BOOK

“Go Big or Go Gnome” by Kirsten Mayer: Albert the Gnome does not have a beard like the other Gnomes. This year Albert decides to go big or go gnome! It’s a close shave, but with a hidden talent and the help of his friends, Albert learns that accepting that you are different is the key to fitting in.
