A former Jerseyville gynecologist acquitted in 2009 of charges he sexually assaulted female patients has been charged in St. Louis County with misdemeanor sexual conduct.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Dr. Roger A. Schroeder, 63, of Jerseyville is accused of fondling his exposed genitals in the front window of Big Bend Antiques in Maplewood. The paper reports that a customer saw what was happening Oct. 10 and told police that when seen, the man pulled up his pants, asked the customer not to tell anyone and left the store. The incident occurred Oct. 10.
Schroeder was charged Dec. 23. Bail was set at $5,000.
Schroeder is listed as practicing gynecology and obstetrics at Memorial Medical Center in Carrollton. According to the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Schroeder’s licenses have been under indefinite probation since his 2009 acquittal “after allegedly breach(ing) professional boundaries with a patient.” The department does not give any specific conditions of the probation.
Several female patients of Schroeder told police they had been sexually abused during appointments. He was charged with five counts, including aggravated criminal sexual assault. One woman testified that Schroeder had unnecessarily sedated her and assaulted her while she was unconscious.
A Sangamon County jury acquitted Schroeder of those charges.
